About the Event

Nury A. Turkel, an attorney and foreign policy expert with nearly two decades of experience, served as a Commissioner appointed by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, actively advocating for legislative responses to address China’s Uyghur atrocities. His policy recommendations have influenced US law and pending bills. In the lecture titled ‘Uyghur Genocide: Sanctioning PRC Forced Labor Practices,’ he delves into the grave human rights violations occurring in the Xinjiang region, specifically targeting the Uyghur population. The focus is on the use of forced labor practices by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the urgent need for international sanctions to address this issue. Mr. Turkel will discuss the evidence of the Uyghur genocide, emphasizing the importance of taking concrete actions, such as sanctions, to curb forced labor.
