The Italian Cultural Institute and American Center in cooperation with the Day of Poetry International Festival invite you to a documentary screening commemorating the establishment of City Lights bookstore in San Francisco, California 70 years ago. It was the meeting point for the poets of the famous Beat generation founded and operated by American poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
The program will be opened with remarks by Mr. Luboš Snížek who translated the poems of Lawrence Ferlinghetti into Czech and met him several times during Ferlinghetti´s visits to Czechoslovakia. Following remarks, you will have the opportunity to see Lawrence, a documentary (2021, 66 mins) produced by Giada Diano and Elisa Polimeni, two Italian film directors who knew Ferlinghetti for 20 years. In the film, Ferlinghetti tells his story and adds many funny experiences from the Beat generation era.
