About the Event

Dr. David Chroust is an American historian of Czech origin. He entered grammar school when Soviet tanks came to Czechoslovakia in 1968. One year later, he fled to the U.S. and entered a refugee camp.  From his perspective, when scientists in the Czech Republic focus on refugees, they often neglect the perspective of child refugees, their experiences and how those experiences influenced their lives.  One of the few books about this topic is Babičko, pošli mi modrýho slona (Gramma, please send me my blue elephant) novel of Jaroslav Vejvoda.  It is written  in the form of a letter from a child.  The book impressed Dr. Chroust and inspired him to reflection on .his memories on the Soviet invasion. The program is aimed at highschool students, but all are welcome.
