An ambitiously multifaceted documentary about the eponymous 2012 Philadelphia music festival organized and headlined by Grammy-winning rapper Jay Z. The film takes you behind the scenes of a musically and culturally diverse event. It is a celebration of both the unifying power of music and pursuit of the American dream. Made in America is an all-access backstage pass to the one-of-a-kind festival created by Jay Z, directed by Ron Howard.
Not incidentally, Made in America also suggests that Howard, who reportedly threw himself into the project with just 10 days of preparation, and who also makes a perfectly respectable on-camera interviewer, should be encouraged in his new avocation as documentarian. Featuring performances and fascinating backstage interviews with many of today’s biggest music stars, the movie shows how one giant celebration of music can change people’s lives.
