Lukáš Rittstein and Barbora Šlapetová collaborate on a long-term multimedia and multicultural project dedicated to indigenous people of Papua New Guinea. The project is an artistic response to fading indigenous nations that are facing the age of globalization and rocket information madness. Their book “Why the Night is Black” passes an authentic way of thinking of indigenous people in Papua New Guinea. The book was awarded the Czech prestigious literary prize Magnesia Litera in 2005.
The program is the first of the cultural series prepared by the Art Director of Spacium, and the member of the board of the Czech IVLP Alumni Club Ivona Raimanová.

Lukáš Rittstein is a notable contemporary Czech sculptor. He is the head of the sculpture studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he studied in 1991-97. His artistic imagination oscillates between reality and abstraction, and finds creative expression in connecting organic forms with technological objects of industrial production or waste. He was presented The Jindřich Chalupecký Award for the young remarkable artists in 1999. The annual award was established by Václav Havel and Theodor Pištěk in 1990. It provides a fellowship to the United States supported by the Foundation for a Civil Society.
Barbora Šlapetová dedicates herself to painting, photography, text writing, and film making. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1991-97 with a stop-over semester at Concordia University in Montreal in 1995. She won a one-year postgraduate scholarship at Akademie der Kunste in Berlin in 1999.
