During the last months of the WWII, the U.S. ground-attacking aircrafts strafed against a variety of targets in the territory of Czechoslovakia, still under German control. Ground-attacking aircraft became a part of daily life in Bohemia, as evidenced by town and village chronicles and oral histories by contemporary witnesses.
According to unofficial information, ground-attacking aircrafts were responsible for disabling 600 locomotives and destroying or damaging 400 German aircrafts. During these operations, the U.S. airforce lost 28 aircrafts in the territory of Czechoslovakia.
Thirteen U.S. pilots were killed in action, thirteen were captured by German forces. Two men were able to survive, hiding till Liberation.
