The Longest Day is a 1962 war film about D-Day, the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, during World War II told on a grand scale from both the Allied and German points of view. It’s based on the 1959 history book The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan and was made in black and white.
The film features a large ensemble cast including John Wayne, Kenneth More, Richard Todd, Robert Mitchum, Richard Burton, Sean Connery, and Henry Fonda.
It won twe Oscars for Best Cinematography (Jean Bourgoin and Walter Wottitz), and Best Special Effects.
