Esperanza: A celebration of Hispanic heritage and hope

From mid-September to mid-October, Americans celebrate  National Hispanic Heritage Month.  The American Center  invites you to a discussion with two scholars who will explore the history of Latinos in the United States, as well as their influence on American politics.

You will have a chance to hear from Dr. Ricardo Ramirez who will join us virtually from the Department of Political Science and the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame and Dr. Katerina Brezinova from the Department of International Relations and European Studies of the Metropolitan University Prague.

Dr. Ramirez will discuss the role of the Latino Voting Bloc, the challenges faced by Latino voters, as well as the impact of post-2020  Census on redistricting and Latino voters. Dr. Brezinova will look at the historical development of the Latino presence in the U.S. since the 1960s, as discussed in her book Latinos: A Different Minority?.
