Building on the theme of our current New York photo exhibit, architectural historian Zdeněk Lukeš will discuss the origin and development of New York skyscrapers, their styles, and the technologies used. He will also mention unrealized plans and introduce you to architects who took part in the battle to build the world’s tallest skyscraper.
Zdeněk Lukeš is a historian of architecture and a university professor. He worked in the architecture archive of the National Technical Museum. In the 1990s, he participated in the revitalization project of Prague Castle initiated by President Václav Havel. Later, he taught at several universities and was also the dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec. Since 2005, he has been lecturing at the New York University Prague.
