The debate is organized in the framework of the Transatlantic Policy Forum.

With new US leadership at the helm and renewed transatlantic relations rekindled, 2021 sought out to be a year of repair and rebuild. Despite US President Biden setting the tone early on that the US was back at the world table, heightened tensions around Afghanistan or cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and amplified by external competitors such as Russia and China – have undermined and challenged these relations. As geopolitical challengers and global tensions rise, can the Transatlantic relationship’s shared values and commitment to democracy reignite relations? How will Biden’s Summit for Democracy try to address these issues? Join us for a public event featuring experts from the US and Europe to discuss the latest developments in the US-EU relations and how to ensure relations remain strong as 2022 approaches.

Sebastian Groth, Head of Policy Planning, Federal Foreign Office, Germany
