About the Event

Tomato Republic is a 2014 documentary film set in Jacksonville, Texas, a small town where everyone knows each other. Local mayoral elections are just about to kick off with three candidates. Usually, there is hardly one candidate for the post, so the producers, originally from Jacksonville, decided to grasp the opportunity and provide audience with an exciting insight into the small-scale election scene. The magic of the film is strongly based on the three candidates, each being a unique character. Tomato Republic covers a lot more than just the election race. It portrays real people from a small American town and shows what their problems are.

In English, no subtitles, 61 mins.

Jenna Jackson, the EMMY award-winning director of the film, will answer questions from the audience about the film and the democratic process in the United States. A Jacksonville, Texas native, Cultural Attaché Erin Kotheimer will also give remarks.
