About the Event

John Nepomucene Neumann went to the U.S. as a missionary in the 19th century, where he founded more than hundreds of schools and 80 churches, and became bishop of Philadelphia.  Pope Paul VI. canonized him in 1977. The American Center commemorates this religious leader with an exhibition of paintings created as part of Prachatice’s annual SALVE art workshop.  Neumann’s sister was part of the Congregation of Sisters of Merit of St. Charles Borromeo, which will also send a delegation to participate and sing songs at the opening.  Opening remarks will be given an Embassy representative and H. E. Mons. Charles D. Balvo, Ambassador of the Holy See. Bishop of České Budějovice Vlastimil Kročil and Prachatice Mayor Martin Malý will also attend at the event.

The program will be in Czech.
