The author analyses American authors’ approaches to the topic and to the problem of the end of the world in general: the end is perceived as a positive event, as an opportunity to learn more about the true nature of this world we live in. The interpretation of the novels is not limited to the present. It also raises some interesting insights into the cultural history of the United States.
