About the Event

A groundbreaking, “stunt” journalist, she feigned insanity to go undercover in a “lunatic asylum” to report on the horrific conditions there, which led to reforms in the treatment of the mentally ill.  In 1890, she broke the speed record for circling the globe, becoming an informal American ambassador to the world while completing the trip in just 72 days.  When the Great War (WWI) broke out in Europe, she became the first journalist to report from the Eastern Front.  She later made her mark as one of the first American women to run a major business.  Hear her remarkable story in this first person portrayal at the U.S. Embassy’s American Center.  JoAnn Peterson will reenact Nellie Bly.

The program will be in English.
