Join us for a live jazz concert by MyBand and the exhibition opening of the Jazz World Photo competition at the American Center. You will be able to admire the 30 best photos selected by an international jury that show a true passion for music. This year, we will also commemorate the 60th anniversary of Louis Armstrong’s visit in Prague. It was a true sensation in March 1965 when this global music icon came to Communist Czechoslovakia. In just 10 days, he performed nine sold-out concerts and influenced the whole cultural landscape of the country as the first artist from the West to visit after the Communist coup in 1948. At the end of World War II, jazz music was a symbol of freedom brought by American troops, and the visit of Louis Armstrong enriched the cultural environment in 1960’s Czechoslovakia, inspiring many musicians in the era that culminated in the Prague Spring. Czech writer, poet and director Mr. Jiří Suchý who was a moderator of the concerts will open this program along with Czech-American jazzman Mr. Martin Kratochvíl.
