About the Event

They left Czechoslovakia during dark periods of the Czechoslovak history and went in search of freedom, but sometimes just a safe place to live across the Atlantic.  These exile generations left their motherland during times of mass arrests, political show trials and repression prior to the rise of fascism in 1938-39, when freed from Nazi concentration camps in 1945, after the Communist putsch in 1948 and following the Soviet invasion in 1968. Often, they believed their departure would be only temporary.
