About the Event

We would like to invite you to an evening dedicated to Bohuslav Martinů, the world-renowned composer of Czech origin, who spent 12 years in the United States. This commemorative event will celebrate the 135th anniversary of his birth. The entire program will be framed by performances of Martinů’s music by students from the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and Jan Kepler High School in Prague. The event will also include a discussion about the new book “Martinů and His World” (University of Chicago Press 2025) and this year’s Bard Music Festival in the United States, which was dedicated to Martinů.

The discussion will feature musicologist and composer Aleš Březina, director of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute and one of the two editors of the aforementioned book; musicologist and composer Vít Zouhar, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation; Markéta Kratochvílová from the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences; musicologist Marek Pechač from the Bohuslav Martinů Institute; and composer, conductor, and educator Marios Christou, director of the Archaion Kallos festival.
