By offering new answers to these old questions, this lecture suggests the need to reconsider traditional understandings of 20th-century American history. Mark R. Wilson is an associate professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

During the 2013-14 year, he is a visiting international professor at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies, in Germany.

He is the author of the book The Business of Civil War (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006), and a variety of other publications on the history of U.S. military-industrial relations.
