About the Event

The European Commission (EC) has adopted a leadership role in major public space infrastructure (i.e. Galileo and Copernicus). But there are new challenges to Europe’s space industry, including fierce competition among a new generation of global space entrepreneurs, increasing pressure on the availability of key space resources, and concern about the disruption of space-based services.  This lecture will discuss these challenges, as well as how European institutions and actors can adapt to this more competitive and contested space environment.  The lecture will include: history of European space policy development; current economic challenges; limitations to the effectiveness of multilateral organizations; the need for Europe to speak with one, prominent voice; and Space Traffic Management (STM) as a case study.  Jean-Jacques Tortora, European Space Policy Institute Director, will be the keynote speaker and answer your questions after his lecture.  This seminar is a part of the PSSI/Charles University’s Master’s Degree Program in International Security Studies.

This program will be in English.
