About the Event

Join us for the opening of “Eighty-Eight of 250,” an exhibition connecting the United States and the Czech Republic through the story of the Breuer family, Jewish Czechs who owned a textile business in Dvůr Králové.  The family emigrated to the United States in 1938 and built a new life there.

Noah Breuer is a direct descendant of the original owners of the business, which was expropriated by Nazi occupiers.  As an artist and Assistant Professor of Print Media at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, Breuer’s work and research focus on the cultural legacy of early-20th-century Jewish-owned textile printing companies in Czech Bohemia.

Come and discover the work of a contemporary American artist with deep Czech roots. Noah Breuer will be present to open the exhibition in person, as part of the American Center’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
