Join us virtually as we screen the musical Dreamgirls to celebrate Black History Month.

In 1960s Detroit, car salesman Curtis Taylor, Jr. breaks into the music business with big dreams. He signs a trio of young women, the Dreamettes, gets them a job backing established R&B performer establishes his own record label and starts wheeling and dealing. Curtis turns the Dreamettes into stars as the Dreams, but not before demoting their big-voiced lead singer, Effie White, promoting softer-voiced l Deena Jones to front and center. Soon after, he fires Effie, sends her into a life of proud poverty, and takes Deena and the Dreams to the top. How long can Curtis hold on for the ride, and will Effie ever get her due?

Film won two Oscars and three Golden Globes. Stars Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. Directed by Bill Condon.
