About the Event

An unconventional road movie in which Martin C. Putna uncovers the historical and religious roots of the current conflict in Ukraine. The film is inspired by his book Images of the Cultural History of Russian Religiosity. The Czech public is watching the conflict in Ukraine, but mostly only perceives its current political dimension.

In the documentary, prof. Putna examines the historical roots of the Ukraine-Russia dispute, identifies the main stages of the relations’ development, as well as tense areas in the history of the two nations, such as early Christianity in the Crimea, Kyiv Russia, pro-European and anti-European tradition in the 18th century, Tsarist Russia refusing to recognize the Ukrainian identity and subsequent formation the Ukrainian culture in Austria-Hungary, the period of Red Terror and the Ukrainian famine.

Martin C. Putna will personally introduce the documentary and will be ready to answer your questions after the film.
