About the Event

Attention movie fans – we are opening a new film club for you, a series called ”Czechs in Early Hollywood”. Come to the American Center for cinematic treats that you won’t get elsewhere. In addition to old American films, you can look forward to discussions about the significant impact of Czech artists in early Hollywood, which are not well known to the general public. You will learn which actress first made her mark as a Czechoslovak figure skater and subsequently starred in more than two dozen American films, or which artist with Czech roots was the very first Oscar winner for special effects. The screenings will always be in English, and the discussions with experts on film, music, and Czech-American history will be in Czech. The first screening is dedicated to the work of Czech artists in Hollywood during World War II and how U.S. filmmakers brought significant Czechoslovak historical events to Hollywood screens. Before the screening,  director and producer Václav Marhoul and former Consul General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles Jaroslav Olša, Jr. will give some historical context to the film. Reserve your seat today! The “Czechs in Early Hollywood” series will run until December.

Discussion will be in Czech and film in English. RSVP by filling out the form below.
