Come to the American Center to view photographs from the series titled “Alone Together.” For eight years, Anna and Jordan Rathkopf, a married couple, documented their journey with breast cancer. This series builds on their acclaimed project HER2: Diagnosis, Caregiver, and Their Son, which presents a compelling visual dialogue between Anna’s perspective as a patient and Jordan’s perspective as a caregiver. This deeply personal yet universally resonant work explores themes of resilience, connection, and vulnerability in the face of illness. The project was honored with the 2024 Professional Photographic Storytelling Award from the International Photographic Council at the United Nations.
The exhibition is part of a project titled Dg. C. – Do You Understand?, which connects the worlds of art and education about oncology in the Czech Republic. Its goal is to help the public understand what the “journey” through an oncological illness means—from the initial diagnosis, through treatment, to returning to everyday life. The photographs will be on display at the American Center until the end of November.
