As the oldest child of Tomáš Masaryk and his American wife Charlotte, Alice Masaryková grew up with a desire for public service. But how to do it? She found an answer while working with immigrants in the poor neighborhoods of Chicago. The lessons she learned there shaped her service as founding director of the Czechoslovak Red Cross and her role in the renovation of Prague Castle.
