About the Event

Bright Eyes is a 1934 American comedy drama film directed by David Butler. The story focuses on the relationship between bachelor aviator James “Loop” Merritt and his orphaned godchild, Shirley Blake, played by Shirley Temple. Bright Eyes was the first film to be written and developed specifically for Temple, and the first in which her name was raised above the title.

As an adult, she entered politics and became a diplomat, serving as United States Ambassador to Ghana and later to Czechoslovakia, and as Chief of Protocol of the United States.
