Main image The Role of Independent Journalism

Events around the world have highlighted the ways information has been used and misused as a vehicle for promoting competing political agendas. Even in well-established democracies, misinformation and disinformation are deployed to overwhelm and confuse the truth.

Participants in the Vaclav Havel and Jiri Dienstbier Journalism Fellowship programs, from countries on the front-lines of conflict and change, will talk about the role of disinformation in their societies, its impact on professional journalism, and the need, more than ever, for fact-based, reliable reporting. U.S. Embassy Spokesperson Tonia Weik will provide opening remarks.

The Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellowship and the Jiri Dienstbier Fellowship are both joint initiatives of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

You will have an opportunity to engage with Ksenia from Russia, Jaroslava from Ukraine, Mirkitsa from Macedonia, and Stefan from Moldova.

The program will be in English.
