Join us for screening of a documentary film about Barney Rosset, legendary publisher of Grove Press and Evergreen Review, who attacked American literary censorship by publishing lightning rod novels such as Tropic of Cancer, Naked Lunch, and Last Exit to Brooklyn and facing the legal consequences.

Astrid Myers Rosset and Sandy Gotham Meehan, creators of the documentary, will introduce the film which depicts Rosset’s rebellious life, including a painting made by Barney at the end of his life on a large wall of his loft in the Village.  A dazzling crew of famous New York artists, musicians, and authors supply the commentary and music.

After the screening (74mins), there will be a discussion with American writer Michael Cunningham and Prague Writers’ Festival President Michael March about the freedoms let loose in the sixties, inspired by Barney Rosset’s extraordinary work.
